Hollywood star reacts after Trump bans her book

<p>Actress Julianne Moore has spoken out after her children's book was banned in US schools under new regulations of Trump's administration. </p> <p>The Hollywood legend shared a lengthy post on Instagram as she reacted to the news that her book, a semi-autobiographical work called <em>Freckleface Strawberry</em> that was released almost two decades ago, was banned.</p> <p>The book was released in 2007 and follows a girl who wants to get rid of her freckles but ends up learning to accept them.</p> <p>The book is one of the thousands of titles US President Donald Trump's administration has reportedly banned from schools run by the Department of Defense.</p> <p>In her Instagram post, Moore said it was a "great shock for me to learn" that her book was being banned, saying she wrote the book "for my children and for other kids to remind them that we all struggle, but are united by our humanity and our community."</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; "I’ve lost my eyesight": Sir Elton John's sad health update

My left eye is not the greatest," he told <em>Good Morning America</em>. </p> <p>“It’s been a while since I’ve done anything. I just have to get off my backside.”</p> <p>The superstar admitted that his loss of vision had really rattled him, saying: “It kind of floored me, and I can’t see anything. I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything." </p> <p>“There’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay. But I’m kind of stuck in the moment, going into the studio and recording, I don’t know. Sir Bob Geldof reveals new version of iconic Christmas song

<p>Sir Bob Geldof has shared the details of the 2024 reprise of the iconic song <em>Do They Know It's Christmas?</em>, revealing why the new version of the song will be the last. </p> <p><em>Do They Know It's Christmas?</em> was first released in 1984, and was sparked by Bob Geldof being disturbed by a news report on the famine in Ethiopia. </p> <p>He enlisted big names such as Bono, Boy George, Sting and George Michael to join in on the song to raise awareness and money for the famine.</p> <p>"I was sickened by it. <p>Roger Federer has penned an emotional tribute to Rafael Nadal ahead of his retirement, reflecting on their stellar careers together. </p> <p>Nadal’s career officially came to an end when Spain was defeated 2-1 by the Netherlands in the Davis Cup quarter-final in Malaga on Wednesday morning, with Nadal in tears as he stepped onto the court for the final time. </p> <p>Thousands of tributes poured in for Nadal as his retirement officially began, but Federer's tribute quickly went viral for his emotional words.</p> <p>“As you get ready to graduate from tennis, I’ve got a few things to share before I maybe get emotional,” Federer said. </p> <p>“Let’s start with the obvious: you beat me - a lot. Olympic legend given just two years to live

<p>British Olympic legend Sir Chris Hoy has announced that his cancer is terminal.</p> <p>In an interview with <em>The Sunday Times</em>, the six-time Olympic cycling champion revealed that doctors have told him he has between two and four years to live. </p> <p>He told the publication that he had initially been diagnosed with cancer in his prostate, which had spread to his bones. </p> <p>Despite the terminal cancer diagnosis, the athlete remained positive and expressed his gratitude for the messages of support he has been receiving since the article's publication on Sunday. </p> <p>"You may see in the news this weekend some articles about my health, so I just wanted to reassure you all that I'm feeling fit, strong and positive," he wrote on Instagram.</p> <p>"Overwhelmed by all the love and support shown to my family and me. <p>Demi Moore has shared a rare update on ex-husband Bruce Willis, as the actor battles frontotemporal dementia. </p> <p>The actress shared the update in an interview with Drew Barrymore on <em>The Drew Barrymore Show</em>, where she opened up about his health. </p> <p>She said she spends as much time as she can with Willis - who she was married to for 11 years and is the father of her three daughters - and his wife Emma Heming, with the blended family celebrating holidays and birthdays together. </p> <p>During the interview, Moore and Barrymore reminisced about their time working together on the 2003 film <em>Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle</em>, where Willis made a special cameo. </p> <p>“When we did Charlie’s Angels, Bruce came and played on it, and he opens up the film,” Barrymore recalled, “And we got to work with him.”</p> <p>Barrymore went on to ask about his current health, noting she had known him for years, all the way back to his days as a barman. </p> <p>“I mean, I used to know him when he was a bartender at Cafe Central,” Barrymore said. “I’ve known him my whole life, too. Sir Ian McKellen shares health update after fall

<p>Sir Ian McKellen has admitted his health is deteriorating, after he <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/sir-ian-mckellen-rushed-to-hospital" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fell off stage</a> during a performance in a London theatre a few months ago. </p> <p>The<em> Lord of the Rings</em> actor was starring in a production of Player Kings at the Noel Coward Theatre when he fell off stage and snapped his wrist. He also chipped a vertebrae, but has now revealed that he has other issues too. </p> <p>“I forget names … When you’re older you’ve got more to remember than people who are young," he said. </p> <p>“Nevertheless, it’s a nuisance when you can’t remember your best friend’s name or forget your telephone number.”</p> <p>Despite being 85, the actor is determined to keep working, but said that he will take time off until 2025. </p> <p> “What else would I be doing if I wasn’t working? <p>The grave of Sir Roger Moore has been vandalised, with brazen thieves taking off with a large family crest that was featured on the late James Bond actor's headstone. </p> <p>The desecration was first noticed by a fan of Moore's, who said he stopped by the small exclusive cemetery in Monaco to see the former 007's resting place. </p> <p>As the man searched for the grave, he noticed Moore's headstone was set apart by the others after he realised a large family crest, which adorned all the other Moore family headstones, was missing. </p> <p>The fan posted pictures of the gravestone online, stirring up outrage among fans. </p> <p>He told <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/06/25/roger-moore-grave-site-vandalized-monaco-shield-stolen/?adid=social-tw" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>TMZ</em></a> he was outraged that someone would meddle with a grave, James Bond legend or not, as others echoed his sentiment. </p> <p>The fan said he was "equal parts shocked and p****d someone would desecrate any grave - but especially one belonging to the James Bond legend".</p> <p>One person wrote on X, "If this doesn’t shake you up, it should stir you up a bit… why would anybody vandalise Sir Roger Moore’s grave?"</p> <p>Another added, "So disrespectful! Sir Ian McKellen rushed to hospital

<p>Sir Ian McKellen has been rushed to hospital after he fell off stage during a performance in a London theatre. </p> <p>The <em>Lord of the Rings</em> star, 85, was starring in a production of <em>Player Kings</em> at the Noel Coward Theatre when he lost his footing during a tense fight scene. </p> <p>The actor then tumbled off the stage and into the audience, who heard his cries for help as theatre staff rushed to his aid, according to reports from the <em>BBC</em>. </p> <p>The audience were informed that the remainder of the evening performance had been cancelled and they were evacuated from the premises.</p> <p>Sandro, Trapani, a member of the audience who spoke to the <em>BBC</em>, described the moment as "very shocking."</p> <p>"I really hope that he is going to be alright," they said. "Best speech ever": Roger Federer's hilarious address to graduates

<p>Roger Federer has gone viral for all the right reasons after giving a hilarious and inspirational speech to a group of graduates. </p> <p>The Swiss tennis legend addressed the 2024 graduating class at prestigious Ivy League university Dartmouth, where he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters for his charity and philanthropic pursuits since retiring from tennis in 2022. </p> <p>The 25-minute speech has been widely dubbed as "the best speech ever" online, as he quipped about the highlights of his illustrious career while sharing sage advice for the new grads.</p> <p>“Hello class of 2024, this is so exciting,” Federer began while wearing a college gown. </p> <p>“I’m so excited to join you today, really you have know idea how excited I am. Keep in mind this is literally only the second time I’ve ever set foot on a college campus. But for some reason you are giving me a doctorate degree."</p> <p>“I just came here to give a speech, but I get to go home as 'Dr Roger'. <p>Richard Branson, the adventurous billionaire and founder of Virgin Group, is no stranger to pushing the limits. However, his latest escapade – a biking mishap on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands – left him with shocking injuries, adding to a long list of near-death experiences throughout his life.</p> <p>In a recent Instagram post, Branson shared the aftermath of his bike crash, recounting how he flew off his bike after hitting a pothole on the picturesque island.</p> <p>The accident resulted in severe cuts on his elbow and a haematoma on his hip. Remarkably, despite the intensity of the crash, Branson escaped without any broken bones, though the same could not be said for his biking companion, Alex Wilson, who also took a spill but thankfully emerged relatively unscathed.</p> <p>"Took quite a big tumble while cycling in Virgin Gorda a little while ago!" He mentioned that he has recently endured "a couple of serious falls" due to a noticeable decline in his balance. <p>Sir Michael Palin has made a candid admission about his grief, following the loss of his beloved wife <a href="https://www.oversixty.co.nz/news/news/indescribable-loss-sir-michael-palin-shares-tragic-news" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Helen Gibbins</a>. </p> <p>Gibbins passed away just weeks after the couple celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary, following a long battle with kidney failure and chronic pain. </p> <p>In an interview with <em>The Sunday Times, </em>Palin opened up about the "great emptiness" he felt in the wake of Gibbins' death. </p> <p>“When someone’s gone, someone who has been so much part of your life for the past 60 years, you can’t believe they’re not there to enjoy a little joke, or an observation, or a b**** about somebody,” he said.</p> <p>“A great sort of emptiness comes in.”</p> <p>Palin shared that his wife relied on dialysis for "so many years" to "keep her alive" that when she, and their children, ultimately made the decision to stop the treatment, he had “never seen her happier". </p> <p>“She’d accepted it, we’d accepted it, she was in a wonderful hospice,” Palin said about the days before his wife's passing. </p> <p>“The children and grandchildren had all come to see her, so her death was a great deliverance for her.”</p> <p>Despite everything, the comedy legend tried to look at the bright side, sharing that he experienced a full circle moment when he had to register Gibbins' death, and a couple with a baby were also at the at the registry office.</p> <p>“I saw the father, I presume, holding on his chest this tiny, tiny little newborn baby,” he said. “And I thought, yes, that’s it, a new person – one in, one out.”</p> <p><em>Images: Getty</em></p>

Roger Federer breaks royal protocol with Kate Middleton

<p dir="ltr">Roger Federer is being scrutinised by royal watchers after an awkward moment with the Princess of Wales was caught on camera at Wimbledon.</p> <p dir="ltr">Kate had welcomed Federer and his wife to the Royal Box to watch the match between Elena Rybakina and Shelby Rogers on Tuesday.</p> <p dir="ltr">It was when Federer greeted Kate to a standing ovation in front of the packed crowd, that he had made the controversial mistake of putting his arm around Kate as he said hello.</p> <p dir="ltr">Royal watchers have accused the eight-time Wimbledon champion of breaking royal protocol, as they believed this action caused Kate to “flinch”, and claimed that Federer was “overstepping”.</p> <p dir="ltr">As part of the royal protocol, it is improper for someone to touch a member of the royal family unless they offer their own hand in greeting.</p> <p dir="ltr">This extends to the royal children, who are expected to bow and curtsy to their own parents when in public, which prompted further questions for Federer’s actions.</p> <p dir="ltr">Despite people finding fault in Federer’s actions, the pair of good friends had laughed and enjoyed their time throughout the game.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It did seem that Kate and Roger were getting along pretty well,” <em>Seven News Europe </em>Bureau Chief Hugh Whitfield told <em>Sunrise</em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Some might say that Roger, overstepped, the mark stepped, across the fault line by putting his arm, around Kate. They’ve known each other for a long time.</p> <p dir="ltr">“There’ll be questions about whether he broke royal protocol.
