“Insufferable” bride rinsed over her list of “wild demands”

A bride-to-be has been slammed online after her list of “wild demands” was posted by one of her bridesmaids, who were expected to spend thousands of dollars to be part of the “wedding of the century”.

The bride wasn’t afraid to set her sights high ahead of her nuptials, and wasn’t shy in asking for a mixture of friends and sponsors to pay for it.

One of her bridesmaids shared the exhaustive list of non-negotiable demands to Reddit, in which she asked her bridal party to “step up their game” months before the wedding.

“Welcome to the beginning of my wedding journey, I'm thrilled to have you all along for the ride, but let's be clear, this is my day and everything needs to be perfect,” the bride began.

“I know what I want and I won't settle for anything less, get ready to follow my lead and make this the most fabulous day ever - this isn't just a wedding, it's basically the met gala.”

She first demanded weekly one hour zoom progress meetings, in addition to everyone meeting at a private member's club every Tuesday.

Then there was a weekend of luxury dress fittings with “no skips allowed”, followed by demands for everyone to spend approximately $700 on champagne brunches, hotel rooms and travel.

The expenses didn’t stop there, with bridesmaids expected to shell out $1,200 for beauty treatments, and $500 accommodation for her 'safari barbie' themed engagement party.

The packed and pricey itinerary continued with the girls then jetting off to Ibiza for “bachelorette party number one”.

“Mother in law is leading the charge and will send Venmo requests soon so you guys can budget,” the bride said.

The bridesmaids were also expected to buy the bride a gift, which she felt she deserved for all her hard planning, and expected her bridal party to throw her the “perfect” bridal shower.

“It needs to be elegant, chic and totally Instagrammable; think designer decorations and gourmet catering, make sure it's perfect, this is your responsibility to handle and make amazing,'” she said.

There was one last trip for final dress fittings and then a reminder to set aside another $1,000 for the wedding weekend itself, which promised to be amazing.

The post was quickly met with a wave of backlash with many commenting on the bride’s “entitled and narcissistic” behaviour, with one saying the list should be titled “how to lose friends in one page”.

Some people said the hefty cost was one thing, but that it was “horrible” how much time the bridesmaids were expected to give up for planning every week, for months leading up to the big day.

“The minute I read ‘weekly one hour check in meeting’ I would have been out. I don't do that s*** for my actual job, let alone this bankruptcy in the making,” one woman said.

Boss slammed for demanding an employee complete work during annual leave

A boss has been dubbed an “abysmal manager” for demanding his employee join a video call for work, despite being on annual leave.

Businessman Ben Askins, who has dedicated his TikTok account to calling out unacceptable workplace behaviour, read out the text exchange between the man and his boss, who quickly became unreasonable in his demands.

The first message came from the man’s boss, who asked “Where are you? Haven’t seen you at your desk today? I need to run something by you.”

The employee responded, reminding his boss that he was off on pre-approved annual leave, and was enjoying a holiday abroad in Spain.

Despite his holiday, the employee still offered to help, saying he could “probably jump on a quick call when I am on the bus from the airport if it is really urgent.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Ben Askins (@benaskins.official)

Unhappy with the compromise, the demanding boss then asked if the employee would “jump on a Zoom call when you get to the hotel” as he would “prefer to do this in person”.

“Sorry, not really possible, we have a really packed schedule,” the worker replied to his boss, to which the manager hit back with, “Damn, wish you had told me that you were on annual leave.”

The man reminded his boss he had signed off his leave two months prior and it was “in the system” but he came back saying, “Lol as if I would remember that. It is poor form for you to not remind me.”

As Ben continued to read the text exchange, he added his own commentary on the situation, saying, “It's your job to remember that, it's not his fault you're just being unbelievably shocking at yours.”

“This is so bad, this poor employee has done everything right; he's got it signed off two months in advance, he's done all the handover, he's done everything he could have done,' Ben ranted.

“Because the manager is shocking, it's now impacting the employee's holiday. I just hate it when that happens.”

Ben, a self-described “champion of younger gens in the workplace” said the heated chat showed the boss's “really poor” form and “abysmal management”.

“What are you doing being so unorganised? Because the problem when an unorganised manager happens it hits down to the team below him - what the hell he's playing at? I have no idea,” he said.

Ben's clip was viewed more than 2.3million and had users fired up, with thousands of comments flooding in in support of the burnt out employee trying to enjoy his holiday.

Flight cancelled after parents demand free upgrade for their child

A flight was delayed for hours before being ultimately cancelled after two parents demanded that their child was upgraded to first class for free.

A plane in China was grounded for three hours after the parents caused a ruckus with the cabin crew, and were eventually kicked off the aircraft.

According to a fellow passenger, the argument kicked off when an unsupervised child began to sob uncontrollably after boarding a flight from Chengdu to Beijing.

As it turned out, the inconsolable toddler’s parents were seated in first class but had only bought their child an economy ticket.

It was then that the angry dad confronted the staff, demanding that his son be moved to first class at no extra cost.

According to the South China Morning Post, the irate dad explained that because he had already paid for two first class tickets, his child’s upgrade should be free.

In the clip shot by a fellow passenger, the outraged dad began berating a group of passengers, crew members, and security guards as they repeatedly explained why his child isn’t entitled to an upgrade.

“Stop swearing at me,” fumed the father. “You have no right to do that.”

When a security guard attempts to de-escalate the situation, the parent lays into him, shouting: “What gives you the right to order me about?”

This prompts a woman to retort: “You’ve wasted too much of our time and we won’t tolerate it any longer.”

After three hours of back and forth, the couple were eventually kicked off the plane, while the flight was cancelled.

The entitled passenger has since been rinsed on social media with one commenter fuming, “This man is so selfish.”

Others suggested solutions for the father that didn’t involve the airline giving the man an extra first-class seat.

“He can switch seats,” advised one person. “Let him sit in economy class, and have the mum take care of the child in the first-class cabin.”

Some on social media were quick to chastise the airline for their handling of the situation, with one person writing, “Keeping the quarrel going for hours? The problem-solving skills of the crew are poor.”

Boss slammed for demanding "insane" farewell gift contribution

A boss in London has been slammed after asking his employees to chip in almost $100 each for an expensive farewell gift for a co-worker.

In a TikTok, London-resident Ben Askins read out the anonymous submission from one of the employees who was fed up after his manager “forced” everyone in the team to contribute because it was "compulsory".

“Hey, noticed you hadn’t paid into the leaving present for Josh yet. Can you send me the £50 (AU$95) today? I want to put the purchase in by the end of the day,” the boss said in the text.

Shocked by the "insane" amount of money, the employee replied: “Can I ask why it is so expensive?

“Money is a little tight right now and to be asked to put in so much feels like a lot.”

However, the manager didn't take his employee's financial situation into consideration, and said: “Josh has led the company for three years now and I think it’s nice gesture to show our appreciation.”

The employee hit back: “I appreciate that but he makes so much more money than me and for me to be asked to put in so much feels weird especially as I never really worked with him”.

But, the manager insisted that the employee needed to make a contribution.

“This is compulsory I am afraid, it is not fair for me to ask some people and not others. Besides it isn’t that much all things considered," he said, and the employee conceded.

It is unclear what happened after, but the texts have gone viral with over 2.2 million views thanks to Askins' video.

Askins, who’s a managing director and co-founder of a digital agency, weighed in on the ordeal.

“I don’t like this at all. I don’t mind leaving presents as a concept, right? But companies should pay it,” he said.

“Companies should take responsibility, set a budget and they should pay for themselves. If you want to get something small for your best mate at work, that’s totally different, that’s well within your right.

“But this sort of compulsory, ‘everyone’s got to chip in’, I absolutely hate," he added.

He also said that the manager's actions are "really poor" and asking for that amount "is just ridiculous, it’s an insane amount".

“It might not be much money for him but it is clearly a lot for this person so it’s just not fair what he’s doing,” he concluded.

Images: TikTok

The rental housing crisis is hurting our most vulnerable and demands a range of solutions (but capping rents isn’t one of them)

Andrew Beer, University of South Australia and Emma Baker, University of Adelaide

Roughly one in three Australians rent their homes. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says increasing housing supply and affordability is the “key priority” for tomorrow’s national cabinet meeting.

The crisis has impacts well beyond affordability. The rental sector is where the worst housing accommodates the poorest Australians with the worst health.

The unhealthy state of rental housing

Forthcoming data from the Australian Housing Conditions Dataset highlight some of these parallel challenges:

it’s often insecure – the average lease is less than 12 months, and less than a third of formal rental agreements extend beyond 12 months

rental housing quality is often very poor – 45% of renters rate the condition of their dwelling as “average, poor, or very poor”

poor housing conditions put the health of renters at risk – 43% report problems with damp or mould, and 35% have difficulty keeping their homes warm in winter or cool in summer

compounding these health risks, people with poorer health are over-represented in the rental sector. Renters are almost twice as likely as mortgage holders to have poorer general health.

Measures that potentially restrict the supply of lower-cost rental housing – such as rent caps – will worsen these impacts. More households will be left searching in a shrinking pool of affordable housing.

It’s all about supply

Fixing the rental crisis needs more than a single focus on private rental housing. The movement between households over time between renting and buying homes means the best solutions are those that boost the supply of affordable housing generally. No one policy can provide all the answers.

Governments should be looking at multiple actions, including:

requiring local councils to adopt affordable housing strategies as well as mandating inclusionary zoning, which requires developments to include a proportion of affordable homes

improving land supply through better forecasting at the national, state and local levels

giving housing and planning ministers the power to deliver affordable housing targets by providing support for demonstration projects, subsidised land to social housing providers and access to surplus land

boosting the recruitment and retention of skilled construction workers from both domestic and international sources.

The biggest landlord subsidy isn’t helping

More than 1 million Australians claim a net rent loss (negative gearing) each year. Even though negative gearing is focused on rental investment losses, it is not strictly a housing policy as it applies to many types of investment.

The impact of negative gearing on the housing system is untargeted and largely uncontrolled. As a result, it’s driving outcomes that are sometimes at odds with the need to supply well-located affordable housing.

The most impactful action the Australian government could take to deliver more affordable rental housing nationwide would involve refining negative-gearing arrangements to boost the supply of low-income rentals. These measures may involve

limiting negative gearing to dwellings less than ten years old

introducing a low-income tax credit scheme similar to the one in the United States.

We can learn much from the US, where the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) scheme subsidises the acquisition, construction and renovation of affordable rental housing for tenants on low to moderate incomes. Since the mid-1990s, the program has supported the construction or renovation of about 110,000 affordable rental units each year. That adds up to over 2 million units at an estimated annual cost of US$9billion (A$13.8billion).

This scheme is much less expensive per unit of affordable housing delivered than Australia’s system of negative gearing.

Closer to home, the previous National Rental Affordability Scheme showed the value of targeted financial incentives in encouraging affordable housing. This scheme, available to private and disproved investors, generated positive outcomes for tenants. The benefits included better health for low-income tenants who were able to moved into quality new housing.

A raft of evaluations have demonstrated the achievements of this scheme.

Crisis calls for lasting solutions

Short-term measures such as rent caps or eviction bans will not provide a solution in the near future or even the medium or long term. Instead, these are likely to worsen both the housing costs and health of low-income tenants.

Reform focused on ongoing needs is called for. Solutions that can be implemented quickly include the tighter targeting of negative gearing and the introduction of a low-income housing tax credit.

Talking about change, as the national cabinet is doing, will begin that process of transformation, but it must be backed up by a range of measures to boost the supply of affordable housing. This, in turn, will improve the housing market overall as affordable options become more widely available.<!-- Below is The Conversation's page counter tag. Firing squad demanded for teen in Bali

Prosecutors are calling for a 19-year-old woman to be executed by firing squad after she was arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs into Bali.

The Brazilian teenager, Manuela Vitoria de Araujo Farias, has been in custody since her initial arrest in January 2023, after allegedly being sprung with 3kg of cocaine in her luggage.

According to global press agency Newsflash, prosecutors demanded the maximum penalty.

If she is convicted of trafficking drugs into Indonesia, she could face execution by firing squad or a lifetime prison sentence.

Authorities allege she was involved with a drug gang, but according to her lawyer, Davi Lira da Silva, the teen sold lingerie and perfume for a living and was tricked by people she trusted.

Mr da Silva claimed the 19-year-old was tricked into cooperating after the gang who hired her told her about temples in Bali where they pray for the ill.

Her mother had recently suffered a stroke and her lawyers claimed she was going to seek Buddhist prayers for a cure.

They also alleged that the gang had promised to pay for surf lessons for Ms Farias following her arrival to the country.

Her arrest made international headlines after the case was confirmed to local media by Bali Police Chief Inspector Gen Putu Jayan Danu Putra in Denpasar on January 27, 2023.

The Bali Sun reported that Ms Farias had arrived at Bali Airport around 3 am on January 1 on a Qatar Airways flight, travelling from Brazil to Bali via Qatar.

“The drug smuggling attempt was thwarted by the Bali airport customs. We really appreciate what customs have done,” Chief Inspector Putra said at a press conference on January 27, according to the outlet.

Ms Farias’ case has been adjourned with the sentences to be announced on a later date in April.

Woman demands jail time for own mother

A grieving Florida woman is demanding her own mother serve prison time after her two young children died less than a year apart while allegedly in their grandmother’s care, one in an accidental drowning and another as a result of being left unattended in a hot car.

Court records show that the grandmother, Tracey Nix, 65, was arrested and charged in November 2022 for aggravated manslaughter and leaving a child unsupervised in a motor vehicle.

The charges are in relation to the death of seven-month-old Uriel Schock on November 1 2022.

“How do you forget a little girl,” Uriel’s father, Drew Schock, said in an emotional interview with local station WFTS.

Authorities reported that Nix left the young child in her car outside her Wauchula home for several hours after returning from lunch. Nix claimed she “forgot” about the child being in the vehicle, according to court documents.

Nix told authorities that her daughter, Kaila Schock, asked her to mind Uriel while she went to a hair appointment, the documents read.

Nix said she went to a friend’s house that morning before leaving to pick up Uriel.

She then drove to a restaurant for lunch, the documents state. The pair left the restaurant at about 1:40pm.

Security footage saw Nix putting Uriel into the rear car seat before driving off, authorities said in the documents.

Nix claimed she drove about 10 minutes back to her home, parked the car and went inside to talk to her dog and practise the piano.

She told Hardee County Sheriff’s Office that it was not like “I was rushing in the house to do anything ... I just forgot,” according to court documents.

The court filings said that Nix was waiting for her other grandchild to arrive, so they could go out to dinner.

After 4:30pm, Nix took two cups of tea out to her car for her and her grandson before driving her vehicle to her backyard.

According to authorities, Nix’s husband was in the backyard and the couple talked for about 10 minutes, the documents state.

When the older grandchild arrived, Nix said it suddenly “came across her head” that Uriel was still in the car, court documents state.

Nix’s husband pulled the baby from the car and performed CPR while someone called 911.

Uriel was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office said temperatures that day reached approximately 32°C.

Autopsies showed no sign of injury. The little girl’s death was ruled a homicide.

How on-demand buses can transform travel and daily life for people with disabilities

People with disabilities arguably stand to gain the most from good public transport, but are continually excluded by transport systems that still aren’t adapted to their needs as the law requires. One in six people aged 15 and over with disability have difficulty using some or all forms of public transport. One in seven are not able to use public transport at all.

Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Australia’s public transport systems were expected to be fully compliant with the 2002 Transport Standards by December 31 2022. Not only have many of our bus, train and tram systems failed to meet these targets, but the standards themselves are outdated. The standards are under review and public consultation has begun.

For buses, the standards largely focus on the vehicles themselves: low-floor buses, wheelchair ramps, priority seating, handrails and enough room to manoeuvre. But just because a vehicle is accessible doesn’t necessarily mean a bus journey is accessible.

There are difficulties getting to and from the bus, limited frequency of accessible services, poor driver training, passenger conflict, travel anxiety and a lack of planning for diversity. In all these ways, bus travel excludes people with disabilities.

Infrastructure alone cannot overcomes these issues. On-demand transport, which enables users to travel between any two points within a service zone whenever they want, offers potential solutions to some of these issues. It’s already operating in citiesoverseas and is being trialled in Australia.

Accessible vehicles are just the start

Making vehicles accessible is really only the tip of the iceberg. Focusing only on infrastructure misses two key points:

our public transport journeys begin before we board the service and continue after we’ve left it

accessibility means providing people with quality transport experiences, not just access to resources.

Let’s imagine a typical suburban bus journey. It is industry accepted that passengers are generally willing to walk about 400 metres to a bus stop. That is based, of course, on the assumption that passengers are able-bodied. Long distances, steep hills, neglected pathways, few kerb cuts and poorly designed bus shelters all hinder individuals with disabilities from getting to the bus in the first place.

This issue resurfaced in the 2020 report People with Disability in Australia, by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. More than one in four respondents with disabilities said getting “to and from stops” was a major obstacle to using public transport.

But other barriers to making services inclusive are even more difficult to see. People with disabilities are forced to plan extensively when to travel, how to travel, who to travel with and what resources they need to complete the journey. Even the best-laid plans involve added emotional energy or “travel anxiety”.

What solutions are there?

On-demand transport offers potential solutions to some of these issues. Its key feature is flexibility: users can travel between any two points within a service zone, whenever they want.

This flexibility can be harnessed to design more inclusive bus services. Without a fixed route or timetable, on-demand services can pick up passengers at their home and drop them directly at their destination. This door-to-door service eliminates the stressful journey to and from a bus stop and their destinations.

And with services available on demand, users can plan their travel to complement their daily activities instead of the availability of transport dictating their daily activities.

The technology behind on-demand transport also helps reduce the need for customers to consistently restate their mobility needs. Once a customer creates a profile, extra boarding and alighting time is automatically applied to all future bookings. This eliminates the exhaustive process of added planning, and enables drivers to deliver a better experience for all of their passengers.

Examples of on-demand services

Cities around the globe are already using on-demand services to overcome transport disadvantage for people with disabilities.

BCGo is one such service in Calhoun County, Michigan. A recent yet-to-be-published survey of BCGo users shows 51% of respondents face mobility challenges that affect their ability to travel.

Some 30% have “conditions which make it difficult to walk more than 200 feet” (61m). That means the industry’s assumed walkable distance (400m) is 6.5 times the distance that’s realistically possible for many users of the service.

Ring & Ride West Midlands is the UK’s largest on-demand project. It operates across seven zones with over 80 vehicles.

The service, recently digitised using Liftango’s technology, is designed to provide low-cost, accessible transport. It can be used for commuting, visiting friends, shopping and leisure activities.

Ring & Ride serves as an example of how on-demand service can provide sustainable and equitable transport at scale. It’s completing over 12,000 trips per month.

A call to action for Australian governments

Government policy needs to address not only inadequate bus infrastructure, but those invisible barriers that continue to exclude many people from bus travel. We need a cognitive shift to recognise accessibility is about creating quality experiences from door to destination for everyone.

This needs to be paired with a willingness to explore solutions like on-demand transport. Transport authorities worldwide are already embracing these solutions. We cannot continue to rely on the community transport sector to absorb the responsibility of providing transport for people with disabilities, particularly as our populations age.

Now is the time to have your say. The Transport Standards are open for public consultation until June 2023.

This article originally appeared on The Conversation.

British lawmakers demand Jeremy Clarkson apologise to Meghan Markle

British lawmakers have come out swinging against Jeremy Clarkson following his “violent misogynist” opinion piece about Meghan Markle.

The Top Gear host wrote a scathing piece in The Sun saying how much he "hates" the Duchess of Sussex, in the wake of the release of the Prince Harry and Meghan's Netflix documentary series.

The piece, which received 17,500 complaints, was retracted with 65 British lawmakers from various political parties condemning the article and demanding an apology to Ms Markle.

"We welcome The Sun's retraction of the article, we now demand action is taken against Mr Clarkson and an unreserved apology is issued to Ms Markle immediately," the letter read, which was led by Caroline Nokes, a Member of Parliament from the ruling Conservative party, and chair of Parliament's Women and Equalities Committee.

"We further demand definitive action is taken to ensure no article like this is ever published again.

"This sort of language has no place in our country, and it is unacceptable that it was allowed to be published in a mainstream newspaper.

"Ms Markle has faced multiple credible threats to her life, requiring the intervention of the Metropolitan Police.

“Hateful articles like the one written by Mr Clarkson do not exist in a vacuum and directly contribute to this unacceptable climate of hatred and violence."

It follows 17,500 complaints sent to the UK's press regulator the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) for the article published in Rupert Murdoch’s rag.

Clarkson was met with significant backlash and tweeted his “regret” over the column, which also saw his daughter Emily call him out.

"Oh dear. Archaeologists demand the British Museum return Rosetta Stone to Egypt

More than 2,500 archaeologists have signed a petition for the British Museum to return the Rosetta Stone to Egypt.

This effort, which was launched last month, has urged the Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to officially request the object’s return, along with 16 other artefacts that were illegally and unethically removed from the country.

Earlier this year, renowned Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass called for the return of the Rosetta Stone, and announced his plans to form the petition.

“Previously it was the government alone asking for Egyptian artefacts,” Monica Hanna, an archaeologist who co-founded the current restitution campaign, told CBS News. “But today this is the people demanding their own culture back.”

The Rosetta Stone, a 2,200-year-old granodiorite stele inscribed with hieroglyphs, Ancient Egyptian Demotic script, and Ancient Greek, was discovered in 1799 during a Napoleonic campaign in Egypt, in which Napoleon’s troops apparently stumbled upon the stone while building a fort near the town of Rashid, or Rosetta.

It was then acquired by the British Museum in 1802 from France under a treaty signed during the Napoleonic Wars.

“The confiscation of the Rosetta stone, among other artefacts, is an act of encroachment on Egyptian cultural property and identity, and is a direct result of cultural colonial violence against Egyptian cultural heritage,” states the petition. “The presence of these artefacts in the British Museum to this day supports past colonial endeavours of cultural violence.”

“History cannot be changed,” the document continues, “but it can be corrected, and although the political, military, and governmental rule of the British Empire withdrew from Egypt years ago, cultural colonisation is not yet over.”

The British Museum, however, maintains that there has never been a formal request by the Egyptian government for the stone’s return.

"Deeply saddened" Prince William demands "swift justice" for tragic death

Prince William has sent out a heartfelt message following the tragic death of a senior wildlife ranger in Africa that he met recently – while also pleading for “swift justice” in retaliation for the murder.

"I'm deeply saddened to learn of the killing of Anton Mzimba who I spoke to in November," the Duke of Cambridge wrote in a tweet.

I’m deeply saddened to learn of the killing of Anton Mzimba who I spoke to in November. Couple’s list of demands for visiting their newborn goes viral

A couple have been slammed online for their list of demands for any family or friends wanting to visit their newborn child.

The list asks guests to do chores around the house, buy them groceries, purchase gifts and not wear deodorant or perfume, along with many more.

The demanding mother took to Reddit to ask if she was in the wrong for refusing to bend the rules for her sister-in-law, who, as a student, couldn’t afford to pay for gifts or groceries, so instead offered to do more chores.

The list of rules from the picky parents begin with reasonable requirements for meeting a newborn, such as being up to date with all vaccinations, no smoking, staying away if the visitor feels sick, and not picking up the baby without the parents’ consent.

However, the list of demands soon becomes outlandish, with the parents requiring that guests arrange a visiting time and date a week in advance, only visit for one hour a maximum two times a week and not take selfies or dish out advice.

“If you visit the first time you will be expected to give mom (me) a gift card and a gift for baby from our approved list,” one of the rules states.

“Before you ever come no matter how many times you will be given a list of either food or groceries to bring with you AND a chore for a list of your choosing,” said another.

The 34-year-old mother said the list was intended to keep visits to a minimum and prevent friends and family complaining about “favouritism” over the new child.

However, when the new father’s sister wanted to pay a visit, things in the family descended into chaos.

“My sister-in-law who studies in a different part of the country and is rarely home asked to visit last week before she had to go back to school,” the mum wrote.

“So we set up a date with a link to our gift list then sent her the takeout we’d like including the chores she can choose from.”

The new aunty responded with the dire state of her finances, and offered to do extra chores instead of buying things, but the parents refused.

“Me and my husband talked about it and came to the decision that if we bent the rules for one person, everyone would want the same treatment,” the woman wrote.

“We told her no, that we were very clear about our rules and maybe next time she could visit.”

Devastated by her sister-in-law’s response, the woman even offered to clean the whole house for a chance to meet her new nephew, but the parents wouldn’t budge on their rules.

“She left this morning and we got multiple texts from my in-laws belittling us for using our child as a cash grab,” the mum said.

“My husband simply replied it was our rules and no one deserves special treatment, then told his family they were on a time-out and blocked them.”

The post on the social media site explaining the story has since gone viral, with comments slamming the new parents for their “money grabbing” tactics.

“Your rules went from 0 to 60. Like smoking and vaccines, yeah. But gift cards and chores? The entitlement is strong with this one,” one user commented.

“Gift item and food? You had a baby, you can’t cook for yourself? I mean I understand friends VOLUNTEERING to bring a meal, but to demand food, gifts and a chore? Try having a toddler and a newborn, working full time. You both sound insufferable,” another person said.

In an open letter to his management team, record label, and Spotify executives, Neil Young has demanded his entire music catalogue be removed from the streaming service.

His reasoning behind the demand stems from Spotfiy giving a platform to podcasters who spread vaccine misinformation and dangerous rhetoric about the Covid-19 pandemic.

He wrote, “I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them.”

“I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform,” he continued. “They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.”

Neil’s callout directly targets right-wing podcaster Joe Rogan, who regularly pedals an anti-vaccine sentiment on his show Joe Rogan Experience, and even claimed he used livestock medication ivermectin to “cure” his bout of coronavirus.

“With an estimated 11 million listeners per episode, JRE, which is hosted exclusively on Spotify, is the world’s largest podcast and has tremendous influence,” the letter reads.

“Spotify has a responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform, though the company presently has no misinformation policy.”

Just 48 hours after Neil Young issued his public demand, Spotify confirmed they would be removing his music from their platform.

The company said they regretted the turn of events and hoped to “welcome him back soon”.

“We want all the world’s music and audio content to be available to Spotify users,” it said in a statement.

“With that comes great responsibility in balancing both safety for listeners and freedom for creators. We have detailed content policies in place and we’ve removed over 20,000 podcast episodes related to Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.”

Neil Young responded to Spotify’s move, saying he was willing to take the hit to his yearly revenue, and urged other artists to contemplate a similar move.

“Spotify represents 60 per cent of the streaming of my music to listeners around the world. Almost every record I have ever released is available – my life’s music. (It is) a huge loss for my record company to absorb,” he said.

“I truly want to thank the many, many people who have reached out to me thanking me for taking this position – people who are health professionals on the front lines, people who have lost loved ones to Covid or who are worried for their own children and families. I have never felt so much love coming from so many,” said Young.

“I sincerely hope that other artists and record companies will move off the Spotify platform and stop supporting Spotify’s deadly misinformation about Covid.”

Prince Andrew demands "trial by jury"

As Prince Andrew continues to fight against a sexual assault lawsuit, he has demanded a "trial by jury" to clear his name.

New York court documents show that Prince Andrew has denied all allegations against him and “hereby demands a trial by jury on all causes of action asserted in the complaint”.

The civil sex assault suit was brought about by Virginia Giuffre, 38, who has accused the royal of forcing her to sleep with him more than 20 years ago at the home of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

In an 11-page document, Prince Andrew's lawyers responded to Ms Giuffre's allegations, saying the Duke denies any allegation that he sexually abused Ms Giuffre when she was under 18 years of age.

The document, which was submitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, sets out a series of defences “without assuming the burden of proof, and expressly denying any and all wrongdoing”.

The Duke's defence also claims that the case should be dismissed because Ms Giuffre is a permanent resident of Australia and that by entering into the 2009 agreement with Jeffrey Epstein she “waived the claims now asserted in the complaint”.

After Judge Lewis Kaplan denied his motion to dismiss the civil complaint, Prince Andrew was previously thought to be seeking an out-of-court settlement with Ms Giuffre for an estimated $18 million: the amount he got from selling his chalet in Switzerland.

Harry Styles’ foray into the beauty world sparks huge demand

The world of men’s beauty products has remained relatively untouched in the past, with many believing these self-care products are exclusive to women.

However, as Grammy award-winning musician and style icon Harry Styles has launched his own non-binary line of products, the demand for men’s products has seen a global rise.

His new brand, called Pleasing, was launched in November and features skin care items and nail polishes, which have become Styles’ signature in recent years.

Global fashion marketplace, LoveTheSales, has been tracking demands and a range of sales data from over 10 million international shoppers.

Since Pleasing was announced on Styles’ Instagram account, shopping searches for “men’s makeup” sky-rocketed a whopping 393 per cent compared to the week before.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Harry Styles Updates. How tall and who pays: Woman’s list of first-date demands sparks debate

A woman’s list of requirements for men to follow on their first dates has sparked a fierce debate on TikTok, with not everyone approving of her demands.

Brooke Miccio, a podcast host and YouTuber, shared her extensive list of first date rules on the platform, with some including height, who pays for the date, and when she will arrive.

“I have the routine down now so here are my rules,” Miccio says in the clip.

Image: @brookemiccio / TikTok

The “seasoned pro at first dates” included one rule about height that is less to do with her date’s actual stature and more to do with if they lied about it.

“I’m going to wear heels to see if you’re lying about your height because every man on every dating app adds a few inches, which is fine but I am 5’7” so it’s just embarrassing if I show up in two-inch heels and we’re the same height,” she says.

“Like you’re lying about something, so just be honest.”

One of Miccio’s other rules states that she will arrive three to five minutes late, as she says she finds it “awkward” to wait for her date to show up.

She also prefers to have drinks rather than food, with the date running for a maximum of two-and-a-half hours, and that the man should pay for the date.

“If you’re courting a woman, the guy has to pay. I’m going to offer, obviously, but it’s a test,” she says in the video.

Her final two rules include wanting her date to text her asking whether she got home safely, and that they have fun on the date.

“We’re just going to have fun,” she says. “Let’s have a good time.”

While some viewers agreed with her rules, especially checking whether she got home safe, others thought it was too much.

“Ok hear me out, I’m the same way but I think it’s okay to let go of the rules and be a little more open-minded,” one user commented.

“This just doesn’t sound fun at all … dating is hard. 🥺”, another lamented.

Image: @brookemiccio / Instagram
