Meet Taronga Zoo’s adorable new meerkat pups

Sydney’s Taronga Zoo has welcomed two newborn meerkat pups.

Born on January 7 to first-time parents Nairobi and Maputo, the two currently unnamed pups have begun to venture out of their nest box and explore Taronga’s Meerkat exhibit.

These are the first meerkat pups born at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo in seven years

Zookeeper Courtney Mahoney told News.com the youngsters were initially a little shy and didn’t want to venture too far, “They were initially a little wary of this big new world outside, but with a bit of encouragement from mum and dad they started to explore.”

Keepers don’t know the sex of the pups just yet. The gender will be confirmed later this month after vaccinations and veterinary examinations.

Any suggestions for the names?
