Outrage as Paralympian gets disqualified for "unfair" reason

Elena Congost, had just finished the T12/B2 run in third place, but was disqualified and had the bronze medal taken from her, for this one simple move.

The 36-year-old was running in the vision-impaired category with guide Mia Carol Bruguera. When her guide faltered with a cramp in the final metres before the finish line, Congost instinctively helped him from falling over and let go of the rope that binds them together.

This is not allowed within Paralympic rules as all runners must be connected to their guide via a tether.

As a result, Japan’s Misato Michishita was elevated to the bronze medal after finishing fourth.

In a heartbreaking interview after the race, a devastated Congost said: “It’s unfair, surreal.”

“The next athlete was three minutes behind me. It was just a reflex action that any human being would have done – holding on to someone who is falling.”

“But that doesn’t mean that there is any kind of benefit or help. In fact, it is clear that I stop dead.

“I can’t find any explanation for this. It’s sad because, in addition, I had just been without a scholarship. And I’m not going to get one now. They will leave me out of everything again when I have shown everything I can do.

“I have not been disqualified for cheating, but for being a person, for helping someone.”

In a separate interview with Spanish outlet Marca, she said that despite being disqualified, she is proud of her actions.

“I would like everyone to know that I have not been disqualified for cheating, but rather I have been disqualified for being a person and for an instinct that comes to you when someone is falling and is to help or support them,” she said.

“I’m devastated, to be honest, because I had the medal. I’m super proud of everything I’ve done and in the end they disqualify me because 10 metres from the finish line I let go of the rope for a second because a person next to me fell face first to the ground and I grabbed the rope again and we crossed the finish line.

“The next athlete is three minutes away from me, so it was a reflex action of any human being to hold on to a person who is falling next to you.”

Fans around the world were outraged at the disqualification verdict and have called for officials to overturn it.

“Shame on you. Give the medal back to Elena Congost,” one fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“Where is the Olympic spirit? Elena Congost was disqualified after running 42km and helping her guide not to fall to the ground. She has lost the bronze medal and her sports scholarship. Disgusting," another wrote.

"Give the medal to Elena Congost. This decision ruins the paralympics. How can you be called inclusive if you can’t help a person from falling?” a third added.

Image: X

“Outrageous”: Silver medal stripped after illegal act

The women's 5,000m final has ended in controversy after the second place holder was stripped of her medal and disqualified.

Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet took out first place in the final, while her fellow countrywoman Faith Kipyegon crossed the line second.

The two Kenyan champions were seen celebrating with their country's flag after the race concluded, but their celebrations were cut short when news of Kipyegon's disqualification came through.

Replays show that with two laps of the race to go, Kipyegon became entangled in a close proximity battle with Ethiopian rival Gudaf Tsegay as they raced for the first place.

Kipyegon appeared to pull on the arm of Tsegay who reacted angrily by fending off the Kenyan.

A Eurosport commentator was in disbelief over the display and couldn’t quite believe Kipyegon had been disqualified over the act.

“That was outrageous I’m afraid. I am astonished,” he said on the global broadcast.

“That was dreadful. She was not in front of her and shouldn’t have moved into her space. She wasn’t remotely far enough in front of her. There’s a rule you cannot [enter] into the space of an athlete where their feet are landing. Tsegay there was very out of order."

“I think Tsegay was pushing into Kipyegon. Kipyegon just tried to protect her area, her zone so to speak."

“If anything from those pictures what I’ve witnessed so far, and we need to get more information, I think Tsegay should have been disqualified. I am utterly flabbergasted. I cannot believe it. If anything they’ve got it completely wrong.”

Because of the disqualification, Dutchwoman Sifansaw Hassan moved into the silver medal position, while Italy’s Nadia Battocletti took bronze.

The Kenyan team officials, however, were determined to fight the disqualification, as they swiftly filed an appeal, arguing that the contact between the two athletes was incidental and did not warrant being stripped of her medal.

After a thorough review of the incident, the appeal panel agreed with the Kenyan team’s assessment, concluding that the contact was part of the natural dynamics of a highly competitive race.

As a result, Kipyegon's silver medal was reinstated.

"Outrageous": Stonehenge defaced by protesters

In a highly divisive demonstration ahead of the Summer Solstice festival in the UK, climate activists from the Just Stop Oil group have sprayed Stonehenge with orange powder paint, leading to the arrest of two individuals.

The protest, aimed at pushing for a legal commitment from the UK government to phase out fossil fuels by 2030, has sparked widespread condemnation.

The ancient site of Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site managed by English Heritage, was targeted early on Tuesday. Videos shared on social media show activists in “Just Stop Oil” T-shirts spraying a cluster of the prehistoric stones with orange cornflour from small canisters. The activists, Niamh Lynch, a 21-year-old student, and Rajan Naidu, 73, were quickly wrestled and apprehended by bystanders before being detained by police.

English Heritage has launched an investigation to assess the extent of the damage to the stones, some of which are believed to be around 5,000 years old. A spokeswoman for the organisation described the protest as “extremely upsetting” but reassured that the site remains open to the public.

“We are working closely with English Heritage to understand the damage caused by this act,” said a spokesperson for Wiltshire Police. “Our inquiries are ongoing.”

The protest has drawn sharp rebukes from leaders of the UK’s major political parties, coming at a crucial time during the campaign for the upcoming general election on July 4. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned the act as “a disgraceful act of vandalism”, and called for the group to be held accountable.

Labour leader Keir Starmer, who is favoured to become the next prime minister, also criticised the protesters, calling the act “outrageous” and demanding that “those responsible must face the full force of the law.”

Just Stop Oil, founded in 2022, has been vocal in its opposition to new oil and gas exploration in the North Sea. The group’s actions, which often disrupt daily life and major events, have led to numerous arrests and jailings of its members.

A spokesperson for Just Stop Oil defended the Stonehenge protest, stating that while the Labour Party has pledged not to issue new oil and gas drilling licenses, this is insufficient. “We need a legally binding treaty to phase out fossil fuels by 2030,” the spokesperson said. “If the government fails to act, we will continue our resistance this summer.”

Images: Twitter (X)

Restaurant sparks outrage for "ridiculous" fee

As inflation rates continue to rise it is not surprising that restaurants are charging extra fees, but one disgruntled customer was particularly shocked to see this "ridiculous" fee on their bill.

The customer, who dined at restaurant and cocktail bar in Georgia, USA shamed the restaurant for charging their customers a $20 fee for “live band entertainment”.

They shared their complaints on Reddit with a copy of their receipt and an unexpected fee at the bottom which read: “Two Live Band Entertainment Fee — $20”.

Most people in the comments were equally annoyed and called the fee "ridiculous".

“This is one of those leave money on the table, hand the waiter a tip and leave, sorry but if I didn’t order it, I’m not paying for it,” one wrote.

“Great way to not have repeat customers,” said another.

“This will backfire for them, just be honest and upfront," a third added.

Other commenters were less sympathetic and did not understand why the customer was complaining when it looked like they could afford it.

“When you’re paying seven dollars for a bottle of water, you really don’t get to complain about ‘unexpected costs.’ You knew what you signed up for," one commenter wrote.

“Imagine a live band getting paid, huh,” another added.

“They’re buying $7 bottles of water, they can probably afford it,” added a third.

Image: Getty/ Reddit

Woman’s outrageous act to catch cheating partner

A woman has issued a desperate plea online for someone to help her catch her cheating boyfriend in the act.

The Sydney woman, named Ariana, listed a job on the site Airtasker for someone to drive her to the suburb of Five Dock to catch her boyfriend, who she suspected was having an affair.

She asked the potential driver to sit with her in the car for a few hours, in exchange for $350.

“I need someone to drive me and a friend to Five Dock and sit in the car with us for a few hours so I can try and catch my cheating boyfriend,” she wrote.

The ad, which was posted just before Valentine’s Day, quickly went viral and received mixed reactions.

“The way I would do this for free,” one person said.

“Wow, who would've thought of putting it on Airtasker! This is genius,” another wrote.

However, some people didn't see the point of going through so much trouble and wasting $350.

“This never makes sense to me - if you don't trust him, just leave. The relationship is dead regardless of if he is cheating,” a woman said.

Despite garnering massive attention online, it is not known if Ariana’s stealthy operation was a success, or if she is still in a relationship with her boyfriend.

Image credits: Getty Images / Facebook

Bride sparks fury over outrageous catering solution

A bride-to-be has caused outrage online after sharing her unusual catering solution for her wedding day, after admitting she has invited more people to her big day than she can afford to feed.

The American bride, who is planning her wedding for October, shared that she has invited 250 of her closest friends and family to her nuptial celebrations, while only being able to afford to cater for 150 people.

Posting her predicament in a wedding page on Facebook, she wrote, “Bride here. Seems the most expensive thing is catering.”

“To save a little bit of money, we are inviting 250 people, expecting about 200 (to RSVP), and telling the caterers to prepare for 150.”

She said that in order to cater for the extra people, she was planning to order fast food from Raising Cane’s: a popular chain of chicken shops across the US.

“I suggested maybe getting a tray of chicken to supplement the missing food,” she said.

“Is this a terrible idea? Would I get the caterers to serve that chicken also, or just put it to the side and let the people serve the chicken themselves?”

Many were stunned by the bride’s catering idea, with one person joking, “Oh, it’s a Hunger Games-themed wedding. Literally.”

Another suggested, “If you can’t afford to feed 250 people, move your wedding date to save up enough for your guestlist or invite fewer people — the most reasonable option.”

“Do not bring in fast food. The caterer will not, cannot, and should not serve your fast food.”

Another person added, “Sucks for the guests, but also real sh***y for the caterer who will get blamed when there’s not enough food for everyone.”

“If I come as an invited guest to your wedding and there’s not a plate for me, I am taking my gift back and self-serving all the chicken I can carry.”

Princess Di misquote in final Crown season sparks outrage

Fans of The Crown have shared their fury over a quote from Princess Diana, after details of a pivotal scene from the royal drama have emerged.

The sixth season of the show, which will be released on Netflix on November 16th, features a key part of Princess Diana's life, in which she dedicated much of her time lobbying for an international treaty banning landmines and her support of victims.

Just three weeks before her death in a car crash in 1997, she visited Bosnia and Herzegovina to meet with affected communities.

In the upcoming episode of the show, Diana – played by Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki – tells her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed, played by Khalid Abdalla, about the horrors of the explosives and how they are responsible for thousands of deaths.

“A man called Ken Rutherford drew my attention to it. He started the Landmine Survivors Network. After his jeep hit a landmine in Somalia he lost both of his legs,” Diana explains to her boyfriend on-screen.

Diana then makes a bold statement, likening stepping on a landmine to her ill-fated marriage to Prince Charles.

“He said to me every survivor has a date of the day they stepped on the landmine. He said, ‘Mine was December 16, 1963’. I said, ‘Mine was 29 July, 1981 — my wedding day’.”

In the scene, Dodi laughs in response.

The inclusion of the presumably fictional quote has been criticised by royal biographer and Majesty magazine editor Ingrid Seward, who had a personal relationship with Diana.

“Diana would never have said anything like that. I think it is an unfortunate comparison,” she told The Sun.

“I think the mere fact that The Crown is depicting Diana’s life and her death is exploiting her memory so they can put into her mouth anything that they want to — however distasteful people might find it.”

Seward went on to emphasise the significance of landmine awareness to the late princess.

“It was very important – it was her big thing and it was a great success too. It is something that she will always be remembered for,” she told the publication.

UK PM causes outrage over transgender comments

Rishi Sunak has sparked outrage after making very controversial comments about transgender people at his first party conference as leader.

The UK Prime Minister, who is campaigning to get people to support his Conservative party ahead of next year’s general election, declared that “we shouldn’t get bullied into believing that people can be any sex they want to be”.

At the party’s annual conference, Mr Sunak spoke for more than an hour as he promised that the Tories would break the mould of the last 30 years of government.

Despite being in power for 13 years, the Conservative party is on the road to defeat the next election, after increasing dissatisfaction among voters.

“We will be bold, we will be radical. We will face resistance and we will meet it,” he told delegates at the conference.

Many have seen his comments about transgender people as the most bold and radical parts of his speech.

“It shouldn’t be controversial for parents to know what their children are being taught in school about relationships,” he said.

“Patients should know when hospitals are talking about men or women. We shouldn’t get bullied.”

His delegates applauded his controversial statements, to which Sunak continued, “We shouldn’t get bullied into believing that people can be any sex they want to be. They can’t.”

“A man is a man and a woman is a woman, that’s just common sense.”

Sunak’s comments quickly went viral online, with many people expressing their concern over such a prominent figure making such divisive comments.

“Outrageous hate, which is going to encourage bullying and physical attacks by thugs, utterly vile,” transgender British newsreader India Willoughby wrote.

“If a single trans person gets attacked or murdered after today then Rishi Sunak should be arrested and charged,” added another.

“Never had so many DMs from worried UK trans people and their families,” wrote a third.

“The important thing following Rishi Sunak’s hate speech: IT IS NOT LAW. Nothing has changed. Trans are still legally recognised and protected. Yes it’s scary – but they do not have time to change rules/law.”

"Divorce immediately": Dad sparks outrage over "selfish" flight

A father has been slammed online for his "selfish" behaviour to enjoy a child-free flight.

The interaction was captured by a fellow traveller, a mother named Kristine, who observed a mum boarding the plane who was struggling to coordinate her luggage, a restless toddler and a newborn baby.

"I helped her get the luggage above and we sat down (in the same row)," the mum said.

After Kristine realised the father was seated in another row ahead with another small child, she offered to switch seats so the family could sit together.

"He says 'Great, thanks' and sends over another small kid to sit with the mum. He enjoyed a kid-free flight," she wrote in now-viral TikTok video.

The footage was taken from the aisle seat prior to take off, as she wrote in the caption, "A little Sunday rage for ya."

Kristine said she was astonished by the man's response and initially did not know how to respond.

"I was like, 'No, I need the aisle [seat] because my kids are in the row behind and I need to be able to help them out'," she recalled telling the father.

The video, which had racked up over 4 million views, had many people up in arms over the man's selfish behaviour towards his wife.

"I'd be so mad," one person commented, while another said, "I would have said no that's not what I meant give me my seat back."

"The absolute rage I am feeling right now," a third person wrote, while another simply said, "Divorce immediately."

However, some men were quick to jump to the dad's defence.

"If they switched wouldn't the kid be alone?" one asked.

Another said, "What if he were the stay at home dad and mom was finally looking after the kids so he could have a break?"

In a second video, Kristine addressed a commenter who deemed the story to be fake and wondered how so many people could side with the man's selfish actions.

"This post went pretty bonkers, but what strikes me most of all is how differently it's received by men and women in the comments," Kristine said.

"The mental gymnastics that men will do to try defend this guy is unreal."

Image credits: Getty Images / TikTok

"Unbelievable but true": Tourist outraged over shocking restaurant fee

A tourist in Italy has been hit with a shocking fee from an upscale eatery after he asked for his sandwich to be cut in half.

The anonymous man was travelling in Italy's picturesque Lake Como region, and stopped in at Bar Pace in Gera Lario, at the lake’s northern end, for a vegetarian sandwich and fries for lunch.

Travelling with a friend, the man asked for the meal to be cut in half so they could share.

After polishing off their lunch, the traveller was shocked when he was given the bill, noticing a charge he had never seen before.

The man paid without arguing, but later took to TripAdvisor to leave a negative review.

“Unbelievable but true,” the man captioned a photo of the receipt on TripAdvisor.

The receipt lists the sandwich for €7.50 ($12.60), Coca Cola for €3.50 ($5.90), water for €1.50 ($2.50) and espresso for €1.20 ($2), along with the debated “diviso da meta”, or “cutting in half” fee, amounting to 2 euros, or $3.40.

The confused customer gave the restaurant one star on TripAdvisor, far below the average of four and a half stars, based on over 100 reviews.

After the review garnered a lot of unexpected attention, the restaurant's owner defended the fee to a local news outlet.

“Additional requests have a cost,” owner Cristina Biacchi told La Repubblica.

“We had to use two plates instead of one and the time to wash them is doubled, and then two placemats. It wasn’t a simple toasted sandwich, there were also French fries inside. It took us time to cut it in two.”

She also noted that the customer did not complain or question the charge and clarified that she would have removed the charge from the bill, if someone had raised an issue.

The extra charge is not unheard of in expensive cities and popular tourist destinations, with some cities in the United States are sometimes hitting diners with a share charge, or a split plate charge, to make up for the lower check average at a table, while some New York City eateries even ban the practice of sharing all together.

"Colossal prick" slammed over outrageous Bunnings parking

A motorist in Perth has been slammed for their "extra selfish" parking act in the carpark of a Bunning's Warehouse.

A frustrated fellow shopper captured the parking faux pas and posted the image of the car to Reddit, which shows a ute with an attached trailer parking over four spaces, including one reserved for people with disabilities.

"There was no disabled badge and of course there is plenty of trailer parking available at Bunnings," the user wrote, adding that there were suitable bays available closer to the store's entrance.

Fellow motorists and shoppers were shocked and appalled by the selfish act, with one Reddit user urging the author of the post to send the photo to both Bunnings and the local council, citing a $500 fine as a deterrent for the future.

"Blocking the disabled bay gets extra selfish points," a user commented, while someone else vented, "Not content with being a colossal prick and taking up four spots, decides to go world-class and make one of those spots a disabled parking bay. Some f**king people."

The post was flooded by outrage at the audacious parking, with users overwhelmingly agreeing that parking in spaces designated for disabled drivers is inexcusable.

After being alerted to the post, Bunnings Regional Operations Manager Hayley Coulson expressed disappointment on behalf of the retailer. "We were disappointed to learn a customer recently used a disability parking bay for their trailer outside our Innaloo store, which our team was unaware of at the time."

"These parking bays are incredibly important for the community and we remind our customers that they're only reserved for people with a disability or mobility restrictions."

She added, "We're really focused on ensuring disability parking bays are always available for their intended use, and we do our best to communicate regularly with our stores to remind them that these bays are not to be compromised for any reason, at any time."

Outrage after renters confronted with cleaning “scoring system”

An Australian real estate agent has come under fire for their “demoralising” scoring system for tenants during routine inspections.

One fired up renter said they were shocked to receive a scorecard from the agent after they complied with an inspection, and shared their feedback on Reddit.

The scorecard rated the tenant’s efforts cleaning the property in 17 different rooms and areas, marking them on cleanliness, and if the areas were damaged or required maintenance.

The renter was then also given an overall rating out of five stars, based on the upkeep of their rental home.

The Reddit user showed that they received just three and half stars, despite being marked down in only one area due to a light globe not working.

In their post, the tenant said they had made every effort to clean the home, adding that the rating was “demoralising”.

“I’ve been renting a long time, and my deep cleaning routine is based around inspections,” they explained.

“I go all out - every room in my little 3x2 villa is given a spring clean, every surface is washed including walls, doors, lights, windows, carpets etc.”

“Had my latest inspection a few weeks ago and just received the report. Despite the agent commenting once again that she never sees houses as clean as mine, and taking 112 (!) photos of every single thing that shows how great the condition of the house is - having one light globe not working is so terrible that I’m scored three and a half out of five.”

The renter went on to say that they had only recently discovered that the broken light globe was the real estate’s responsibility to replace, and does not warrant such a severe marking down in their “score”.

“The globe in question is a downlight fitting. We have so many downlights that I don’t even use this particular one,” they continued.

“I can’t replace the globe itself, I need to get into the roof to replace the whole unit. Thanks to people here I’ve learned this isn’t even my responsibility to fix!”

The renter’s post sparked a huge outrage online, with many up in arms over the current state of the rental market and unrealistic expectations of estate agents.

One person said, “I fully believe that the average renter keeps a home to a higher standard than an owner, and it seems deliberately demoralising that someone could be marked down for having a light out.”

Another added, “This is ridiculously petty, and more importantly, totally irrelevant to the purpose of a periodic inspection. Which is to identify whether any maintenance is needed.”

A third person took their anger out on the entire system, summing it up by writing, “I sort of wonder what little lightbulb clicks in your mind and you wake up one day and ask yourself, ‘How can I be a massive c*** who offers no value to society? I know! I will get into real estate.’”

Image credits: Getty Images / Reddit

Fans fume as classic film undergoes censorship treatment

Film fanatics are in outrage after discovering an unannounced edit in William Friedkin’s 1971 classic movie, The French Connection.

The scene causing the trouble comes just 10 minutes into the drama, when two characters - Gene Hackman’s ‘Popeye’ Doyle and Roy Scheider’s Buddy ‘Cloudy’ Russo - are having a conversation, and one of them uses a racial slur.

The sequence was removed, and the new edited version cuts to the latest in the conversation, omitting the part with the slur.

Disney has been the subject of blame for the move - as the company took over Fox in 2019 and subsequently the rights to the film - with fans accusing them of censoring the scene in the United States, while in the United Kingdom and Canada, the unedited version of the film is still available for streaming on Disney+.

Most took to social media to share their complaints, with the majority in agreement that Disney had missed the mark, and The Film Magazine’s Joseph Wade even calling it “corporate vandalism”.

“In cases such as this, ‘Censor’ takes the place of ‘Vandalise’,” he tweeted. “They have vandalised a piece of art.”

Disney Censor 'The French Connection' (1971)

In cases such as this, "Censor" takes the place of "Vandalise".

They have vandalised a piece of art. “No justification for this ever”: Outrage over one husband’s selfish inflight arrangement

A couple in the United States have landed themselves at the centre of the internet’s attention after the wife made the shocking admission that her husband flies first class when they travel, leaving her behind in economy with their two children.

Writing to The New York Times’ ethics column, she wanted to know if she was selfish for thinking their ‘arrangement’ was unfair, noting that while he had offered a compromise of sorts, it did “not really address or solve the problem of the inherent selfishness in his thinking.”

As she explained in her message, she and her husband are avid travellers, and he “either pays for, or gets an upgrade into, the first-class cabin”. Even when they travel with their two children - who are 12 and 16 years old - he takes himself off to first class, while they remain in economy.

According to her, he justifies it to himself by explaining that it’s “because of the cost”, and that their children “might feel alone” if she were to travel up front with him.

“I feel that this is unfair,” she said. “ I don’t think our kids would mind if they were in economy plus and my husband and I sat together in first class. Is that unfair of me to want?

“My husband has suggested travelling alone on a different flight ahead of us so that we don’t feel badly about the disparity, but this does not really address or solve the problem of the inherent selfishness in his thinking. Am I wrong?”

Kwame Anthony Appiah, the ethicist who responded to her for The New York Times, was of the opinion that “a modern marriage is meant to be a pairing of equals”, with partners treating each other with respect and having equal say in the decision making process.

“Your husband has another view,” he said. “He evidently thinks that because he’s the ticket-buyer in the family, his own preferences get priority.”

And when the article was shared to social media, people from all over were quick to get in on the discussion, with most leaping to the defence of the wife.

“I’d divorce him so fast he’d never get to fly first class again until our kids were grown and through college,” one said. “There is no justification for this ever.”

“I'd be calling a divorce lawyer rather than a travel agent,” one agreed.

“Wow. And you’re still married to him?! I’d recommend booking your own flights,” came a similar response.

Meanwhile, another noted that she “just might be married to a narcissist.”

“Oooph BIG YIKES. It’s not about the flight, I’m sure this imbalance trickles into other parts of the relationship,” someone wrote.

And as another shared, “recently, my husband was offered the upgrade to first class but declined it because I couldn’t go too. We’ve been married 30 years.”

Some, however, took issue with the idea of both parents lounging in first while their children were still left behind, with one noting “she wants to upgrade but still leave the kids in economy? The pair of them sound like terrible parents.”

“Frankly, I’m blown away that this mother sees the disparity for herself,” another said, “but is perfectly comfortable experiencing privilege while treating her own children disparately.”

Images: Getty

"Holy crap that's rude": Inflight act sparks outrage

A woman’s “selfish” act has sparked outrage online after a Reddit user shared a picture of her mid manicure on a three-hour flight.

The Reddit user who posted the photo also claimed that the strong smell of nail polish remover filled the cabin and many other passengers had asked her to stop, but she refused.

“The flight attendant asked her after four of us asked her to stop and she didn’t, because by the time the flight attendant got involved she was doing the top coat,” the Reddit user wrote.

Initially, the Reddit user said they did “the British thing” by glaring at the back of the woman’s head and “tutting loudly” in hopes that she would put it away.

But eventually the passenger had enough of the overpowering smell of acetone and asked a flight attendant to intervene.

Many other travellers replied to the Reddit post condemning the woman’s actions.

“My brain can’t comprehend this level of entitlement and selfishness,” wrote one user.

I love doing my nails, but I would never do them in such an enclosed space where people can't escape the fumes. Holy crap that's rude,” commented another user.

“I would have been SEETHING. Imagine if people near her had asthma,” wrote a third.

“I detest the smell of acetone and other chemicals used for the process of finger nail decoration. Headache within seconds,” commented a fourth.

“Happened on a flight I was on; a flight attendant came over and shut that down within a minute for degrading the air quality,” commented another traveller.

Another user questioned whether nail polish was even allowed in cabin luggage.

“How is nail polish and nail polish remover allowed on a carry on bag??? Both are highly flammable and both give off ridiculous amounts of fumes,” they commented.

A few other Reddit users didn’t see a problem with it and wondered why it would bother other people.

“I didn’t see the issue at first ... I think nail varnish smells lovely, I’m just now learning that most people do not share my opinion,” commented one user.

“I still don’t personally see the big deal, but I’m not particularly sensitive to chemical scents,” commented another.

Image: Reddit

Mum sparks fury for admitting to tanning newborn

A young mother split the internet in half when she shared the shocking news on social media that she was self-tanning her four-month-old son.

In a clip posted to her TikTok, the 21-year-old could be seen holding her baby, with the text “when everyone is telling me to stop self-tanning my baby but the loving tan employees have families to feed” across the screen.

The video hit viral heights, gaining over 1 million views along with its varied - and passionate - response.

Many were quick to voice their outrage at the young mum and her “selfish” move, calling into question the health risks that such a tanning process might pose to Kylen Suttner’s son, Suede.

“Gosh, those chemicals can hurt a little one's skin,” one dismayed user wrote. “Their skin is so sensitive when they're babies.”

“Disgusting!” another declared. “So horrible.”

One was concerned that Suede was going to “grow up thinking he isn’t good enough naturally, especially to the one person who would love him unconditionally”.

“Why does a baby need a fake tan... so unnecessary,” someone else said.

Meanwhile, another just wanted to know “is this a joke, I can't tell?"

Others seemed of the opinion that it was, with some even replying to similar questioning comments to share that the baby reportedly had jaundice, and this was his mother’s way of making light of the situation.

And it turns out that that was exactly the case.

As criticism continued online, heating up as the story blew up across news outlets, Kylen made the confirmation with The Post that it had all been a joke.

“He had jaundice and looked really tan when he was born,” she explained to the outlet. “Everyone commented on his colour, so I decided to make a joke about it.

“I would never actually use self tanner on my baby.

“I feel like most people understood it was a joke. But the few who didn’t were appalled that I would self tan my baby.”

For those who understood the truth of the situation, it was an opportunity to get in on the fun with Kylen, with many making the announcement that this would be “me as a mum” too.

“I love this,” one said. “I wish I had his skin colour.”

“You gotta keep the tan up,” came one joke, referencing a popular Family Guy meme, “it’s a lifestyle Brian”.

“So funny to me that people think you’re being Fr [for real],” another shared.

Images: TikTok

"Shame on you": Parents' major backflip on their son's name causes outrage

A father has come under fire after revealing he changed the name of his adopted son back to his biological name after almost a decade, so his biological son could have the legacy name instead.

The man, named August, took to Reddit's popular "Am I The A**hole?" thread to ask for the opinions of strangers on the internet if he had made the right decision about his child's life.

According to the dad-of-two, the name August has "gone back for five generations" in his family, and he had always planned on giving their child the name to continue the legacy.

When he and his wife had been trying to conceive for many years, they decided to turn to adoption so they could have a family.

They adopted a baby boy from Vietnam, whose birth name was Thien, and decided to have it legally changed to August VI.

However, seven years later, the couple found out they were expecting a "miracle" baby together, and decided to switch their adopted son's moniker back to Thien so that they could give the name to their biological baby instead.

The man's post, which has since been deleted, read, "My name is August V. My name goes back five generations now and it was always my plan to make my son August VI."

"My wife and I were horrified to find out I was essentially firing blanks and was told I would essentially never be able to father kids - heartbreaking."

"We started the adoption process right away looking in mostly foreign countries so it would go faster, and we were able to adopt a baby boy from Vietnam."

"His first name was Thien but my wife agreed to change his name to August VI. We also agreed we would let nature take its course because miracles can happen."

"Seven years later, a miracle did happen and my wife turned up unexpectedly pregnant."

"I decided with my wife's agreement that because we now have a bio son, it is better to give the firstborn biological son the family name."

The father went on to explain that changing Thein's name was not a huge deal, because even though his legal name is August, everyone referred to him as Thein.

When the dad informed Thein's school about the change, word got out about their decision, leading to the gossip mill in their town dubbing them "social pariahs".

"We are the subject of massive gossip - accusations of not loving Thein enough."

"We've heard it all through closed mouth hushed tones. It's gotten so bad. So, am I the a**hole?"

Redditors were quick to condemn the parents' decision, with many not holding back in order to make sure the father knew that he was, in fact, the a**hole.

One person wrote, "You are the a**hole. People like you really shouldn't adopt."

Another said, "You're the a**hole. You dragged your kid to a legal proceeding to make sure he knows his place will always be less than your bio son."

"Great way to show your adopted child that biology trumps all. Shame on you and your wife," another user raged.

Million dollar baby! Video of newborn covered in money sparks outrage

The bizarre moment a new father covered his newborn child in $100 bills has gone viral, sending social media into a frenzy over the strange act.

The video shows a sleeping newborn in a crib in a hospital's nursery, while an adult covers the baby boy in $100 bills.

Despite a blanket covering the baby's body, many were quick to point out just how many germs and bacteria live on cash notes, with many worried about the child picking up an infection from the dirty money.

According to TIME, paper money can reportedly carry more germs than a household toilet - and hundreds of species of microorganisms can live on the cash for days.

Man covers his new born baby with hundreds 😳 pic.twitter.com/AFEYajIY6N

— Daily Loud (@DailyLoud) April 25, 2023

People took to Twitter to show their outrage at the germs, with one person saying, "Bro just created a bacteria blanket for a newborn."

Another shared the same sentiment, writing, "Unless those are brand new bills straight from the bank, he just covered his baby in a blanket of germs."

Another person said, "Very very unhygienic I hope baby doesn't get sick..." while a fourth added, "Money is full of pathogens, I wouldn't compromise the baby's health."

Others cut the happy parent some slack, saying it was a strange decision to shower the baby with money, but said they could understand the person's excitement over the bundle of joy.

One person said, "Probably a proud first-time father and isn't thinking about how ridiculous this is. Outrage halts New Zealand cat-killing contest

A contest planned for children in New Zealand to hunt and kill feral cats in an attempt to protect native species has been stopped following severe backlash from the public and animal rights groups.

The event would have been part of a fundraiser organised by the North Canterbury Hunting Competition for the Rotherham School in the Canterbury region of South Island.

A new junior category was announced by organisers on April 16 that would allow children to hunt feral cats and compete for a top prize of $NZ250 prize ($229AUD).

The announcement sparked public outrage leading organisers to cancel the event the very next day, April 17.

A statement released by organisers explained, "vile and inappropriate emails and messages had been sent to the school and others involved.”

"We are incredibly disappointed in this reaction and would like to clarify that this competition is an independent community run event," the statement continued.

Feral cats have long been an issue between animal lovers and authorities because of the potential threat they pose to other wild animals.

Authorities say that in Australia, feral cats threaten the survival of more than 100 native species.

Feral cats are responsible for killing millions of birds, frogs, mammals and reptiles every day, compelling authorities to arrange regular culls.

Organisers of the contest maintained that the junior hunting tournament to kill feral cats, using a firearm or any other means, was about "protecting native birds and other vulnerable species”.

"Our sponsors and school safety are our main priority, so the decision has been made to withdraw this category for this year to avoid further backlash at this time," it said.

"To clarify, for all hunting categories, our hunters are required to abide by Firearms Act 1983 and future amendments as well as the Animal Welfare Act 1999.”

Organisers had announced rules to discourage young participants from killing pets.

Any child who brought in a microchip cat would have been disqualified, they said.

The group mentioned that previously scheduled hunts for other categories like local pigs and deer would still go ahead.

The New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said it was "both pleased and relieved" that the junior cat-killing contest had been axed.

"Children, as well as adults, will not be able to tell the difference between a feral, stray or a frightened domesticated cat,” it said.

"There is a good chance someone's pet may be killed during this event. In addition, children often use air rifles in these sorts of event which increase the likelihood of pain and distress and can cause a prolonged death," it added.

Animal rights group PETA was pleased to see the contest had been withdrawn.

PETA’s Asia vice president Jason Barker released a statement, saying, ”Encouraging kids to hunt down and kill animals is a sure-fire way to raise adults who solve problems with violence ... We need to foster empathy and compassion in kids, not lead them to believe animals are 'less than' humans while rewarding them for brutality.”

The contest was publicly slammed on Twitter by British comedian Ricky Gervais, who is a known animal lover with an enormous platform of 15 million followers.

“Right. We need some new PR ideas to make the world love New Zealand. Maybe something involving kids & kittens. Yes, Hargreaves?” https://t.co/E3nPTl1IHj

— Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais) April 19, 2023

"Right. We need some new PR ideas to make the world love New Zealand," he wrote.

"Maybe something involving kids & kittens. Yes, Hargreaves?”

This is not the first official campaign against cats in New Zealand, including one that encouraged cat lovers to avoid replacing their pets when they die.

"Cats are the only true sadists of the animal world, serial killers who torture without mercy,” said then Prime Minister John Key, who had his own cat named Moonbeam.

Helen Blackie, a biosecurity consultant at the environmental planning and design consultancy, Boffa Miskell, has studied feral cats for over 20 years and said that numbers had risen in the last decade, and in some areas where pests were tracked by cameras, feral cats outnumbered other species like possums.

"Historically, we know that feral cats were responsible for the extinction of six bird species and are leading agents of decline in populations of birds, bats, frogs and lizards," she told CNN affiliate RNZ.

"Broke my heart": Mum's outrage at stranger's comment about her disabled son

A Sydney mother has shared her shock and outrage after a stranger made "rude" comments about her son.

Tori Boyadji and her friend Lyndal were walking through Collaroy Park in Sydney's north with Tori's two-year-old son Isaac, who has Down syndrome.

The friends were stopped by a woman who looked at Isaac and exclaimed, "Ohh is this a little downsie?"

Tori, 28, went on to recount how the stranger said she would "never want a kid with Down syndrome" herself.

Ms Boyadji told The Daily Telegraph that the stranger's comments left her feeling very upset.

"Lyndal and I just looked at each other in disbelief – I’m not easily offended but this comment truly broke my heart," she said.

"Why would you say that to two mums with their adorable kids right there?"

Tori said Isaac is just like any other toddler, as he loved The Wiggles and going to the beach.

"He also happens to have Down syndrome — but this is the least interesting part of him," she said.

Rhonda Faragher, Associate Professor of Inclusion and Diversity at Queensland University, weighed in on the exchange, and shared her thoughts that the major issue lays with the fact that people believe those with Down syndrome need to change in some way.

"In my view, it's not the language itself, it's what's behind the language," she explained to Yahoo News Australia.

"That somebody in the community would feel [a child with Down Syndrome] would not be a child they'd like to have in their family without even knowing the child."

"I think it's [disappointing] that other people don't understand that this is not a tragedy," she added. "Having a person with Down syndrome in your family, in your life, is actually a terrific blessing."
