Create this gorgeous river pebble trivet for your kitchen

Frustrating kitchen situation: you get a hot dish out of the oven, or remove a saucepan from the stove, only to remember you haven’t got a trivet or hot pad out to protect your benchtop. And your hands are full, so you hover there for a second before replacing the dish and finding your trivet.

Solution: create a trivet so lovely to look at that you won’t want to put it away. That way, it’s always there when you need it. Let’s get started.

What you’ll need:

Two large pieces of felt (OR a suitable piece of foam matting - the kind with letters on it that you might put on the floor for young children to play on)

Hot glue gun

River pebbles

Method:

Decide on the size you want your trivet to be, and cut your foam or felt accordingly. If using felt, glue two pieces together for a little extra stability. As a size guide, you might want to trace around a large dinner plate.

Arrange your pebbles on the felt/foam to get a pattern you like. Be sure to have as flat a surface on the stones as possible.

Using the hot glue gun, glue the stones down one by one until you’ve covered the trivet.
