Lionel Richie gives rare update on King Charles

<p>Lionel Richie has shared an update about King Charles’ health during a gala event in his honour. </p> <p>The <em>All Night Long</em> singer, who is friends with the monarch and even performed at his <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/entertainment/music/lionel-richie-spills-the-one-thing-no-one-knows-about-king-charles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Coronation Concert</a> last year, shared the update on Thursday night during the inaugural King’s Trust Global Gala in New York.</p> <p>“Happily I can say, he is doing fantastic,” Richie, a Global Ambassador of the Trust, told <em>People magazine</em>.</p> <p>“Again, I understand, he needs to sit still, you know what I’m saying. The most important part is he is doing well. He’s back to his duties and so therefore, I wouldn’t want the first thing for him to do is come over — let’s not prove anything here.”</p> <p>He also shared that he was expecting a phone call from his friend at the conclusion of the event. </p> <p>“Believe me, my question [from him] now is, ‘How was it?’ After I finish tonight, I’m gonna get that call saying, ‘Well, how was it?’” he revealed.</p> <p>King Charles recently returned to his <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/king-charles-returns-to-public-duties-for-the-first-time-since-diagnosis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">public duties</a> for the first time with a visit to a cancer treatment centre in London, where he opened up about his own experience to other patients. </p> <p>There, he also spoke for the first time about the moment he found out he had cancer, telling one patient:  “It’s always a bit of a shock, isn’t it, when they tell you?” </p> <p><em>Image: Getty</em></p> <p> </p>

Sofia Vergara opens up on divorce

<p>Sofía Vergara has revealed the reason why she and Joe Manganiello decided to call it quits after seven years of marriage. </p> <p>In an interview with <em>El País</em>, the 51-year-old actress revealed that Manganiello’s desire to have children led to their divorce. </p> <p>“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids, and I didn’t want to be an old mum,” she said. </p> <p>“I feel it’s not fair to the baby.”</p> <p>The <em>Modern Family</em> actress added that although she respects those who wish to have children later in life, the path is just not for her anymore.</p> <p>The actress already has shares a 32-year-old son with her first husband, Joe Gonzalez. </p> <p>“I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother,” she said. </p> <p>“When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do," she added. </p> <p>Despite this, the actress is open to love again - as long as her next romantic partner has kids of his own. </p> <p>In July 2023, Vergara and Joe Manganiello announced their <a href="https://www.oversixty.co.nz/lifestyle/relationships/sofia-vergara-and-joe-manganiello-announce-separation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">separation</a> in a statement shared to <em>Page Six</em>. </p> <p>“We have made the difficult decision to divorce. Richie and Gemma McCaw shame barefoot passenger on flight

<p>All Blacks star Richie McCaw and his Olympian wife Gemma have shared their displeasure after an inconsiderate passenger invaded their personal space on a flight to the Rugby World Cup in France. </p> <p>The couple - who were seated in economy class - were travelling with their young daughters Charlotte, 4, Grace, 2, and five-month-old Ella, when Gemma shared the video on Instagram. </p> <p>"Lovely pedi colour but I think I'll have to put my foot down for this one," she captioned the Instagram story, as she panned to reveal the strangers barefoot on her daughter's armrest.</p> <p>From across the aisle, Richie can be seen shaking his head in disgust. </p> <p>In the next update, the Olympian showed her eldest daughter Charlotte writing a polite message for the stranger. </p> <p>"Please put your foot down," the four-year-old wrote. </p> <p>"I don't want to put my foot in it so Charlotte thought of trying this approach," Gemma captioned the story. </p> <p>A few hours later Gemma revealed that the issue had been solved after a flight attendant stepped in. </p> <p>"Update on the foot gate: hostess stepped in and asked her to kindly remove her foot from the seat. All is well."</p> <p>Fans were quick to back the star, in an earlier post of the McCaw family at the airport. </p> <p>"Please tell that guy resting his bare foot on the arm of your daughters seat to bugger off and to put on some socks and to remove his foot from that personal space," wrote one fan. </p> <p>"Give that disgusting foot a shove after your daughter has drawn all over it," another commented. </p> <p>"Off to watch some footie," quipped a third with a foot emoji. </p> <p>"I hope you said something to the foot person, that is disgusting!!!" wrote a fourth. </p> <p><em>Images: Instagram</em></p>

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello announce separation

<p>Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have announced their separation, after being married for seven years.</p> <p dir="ltr">The pair, who have previously been dubbed one of Hollywood’s most solid couples, confirmed the news of their divorce in a statement to <em><a href="https://pagesix.com/2023/07/17/sofia-vergara-and-joe-manganiello-separate-after-7-years-of-marriage/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Page Six</a></em> on Monday.</p> <p dir="ltr">“We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” the statement read.</p> <p>Vergara is currently celebrating her 51st birthday with a group of friends in Italy, with Manganiello notably absent from the celebrations.</p> <p dir="ltr">A source also told <em>Page Six</em> that they have been “growing apart for a while now” and “are taking some distance from each other to contemplate their future”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Another source added that “no one out there (in Italy) with her is even attempting to pretend that it’s not over. It’s over. It’s done.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Vergara and Manganiello’s last public sighting together was in June, when the actress visited Manganiello on the set of his new film, <em>Nonnas</em>, in New Jersey.</p> <p dir="ltr">The couple first met through Vergara’s former <em>Modern Family</em> co-star, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, in 2014 at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, while she was still engaged to ex Nick Loeb.</p> <p dir="ltr">When Vergara and Loeb’s engagement was called off, Manganiello reached out and the pair started dating.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I knew pretty quickly that I could trust her, and she knew pretty quickly that she could trust me,” Manganiello told <em><a href="https://people.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People magazine</a></em> of their bond in 2020.</p> <p dir="ltr">“And we’re both the kind of people who are capable of putting the other person ahead of ourselves. I was capable of putting her wishes ahead of mine, whatever they were, and she was capable of doing the same. Lionel Richie spills the one thing “no one knows” about King Charles

<p dir="ltr">Lionel Richie has spilled the tea on his interactions with King Charles over coronation weekend.</p> <p dir="ltr">The American singer, who attended the coronation and headlined the concert at Windsor Castle on May 7, shared some of the highlights in an interview with <em>Extra</em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">Richie praised King Charles’ “amazing” sense of humour, and shared how he convinced the Royal Couple to make a guest appearance on <em>American Idol </em>last Sunday.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I think the highlight for me was that I actually walked up to the King the day after the coronation and said, ‘Would you like to be on “American Idol?” he told <em>Extra.</em></p> <p dir="ltr">Surprisingly, King Charles replied: “Yeah” and asked if it was alright to “bring the queen?”.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I've known the King for quite a long time. He does have this amazing sense of humour that no one knows about.</p> <p dir="ltr">“He's a secret comedian, I'll put that out there,” Richie added.</p> <p dir="ltr">“For him to actually take the step and go out of the comfort zone — that was actually his comfort zone, he was hamming it up… It’s so good for the world to know.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Thanks to Richie’s little quip, the surprise cameo made headlines and gave viewers insight into the Royal couple’s playful rapport.</p> <p dir="ltr">The cameo, which was streamed live in the palace’s Throne Room, occurred shortly after Richie performed at the coronation concert.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I just wanted to check, how much, how long will you be using this room for?” King Charles quipped, suggesting that he wanted Richie out of the throne room as soon as possible.</p> <p dir="ltr">“We have to give the room up right away,” Richie replied.</p> <p dir="ltr">King Charles and Richie’s friendship came after the latter was appointed the First Global Ambassador and First Chairman of the Global Ambassador Group for The Prince’s Trust in 2019.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: ABC American Idol/ YouTube</em></p>

Lionel Richie’s daughter Sofia ties the knot in lavish French wedding

<p dir="ltr">Sofia Richie, 24, has officially tied the knot with British record executive Elliot Grainge, 30, in a lavish ceremony in the south of France.</p> <p dir="ltr">The wedding took place over the weekend at the ultra exclusive Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, which boasts stunning views of the Mediterranean, and was attended by various celebrities including Cameron Diaz, Benji Madden, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Joel Madden.</p> <p dir="ltr">The socialite walked down the aisle with her famous dad, and has shared intimate details of the moment.</p> <p dir="ltr">“My father has always been the most comforting figure in my life, and he’s kept me grounded,” Sofia told <a href="https://www.vogue.com/slideshow/sofia-richie-and-elliot-grainge-wedding" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Vogue</em></a>.</p> <p dir="ltr">Sofia also said that she was really nervous and high on adrenaline before walking down the aisle, but her father’s words comforted her before the big moment.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I was really nervous before I was going to walk down the aisle—it was like I had stage fright, my adrenaline was so high. We had over seven minutes to chat though, and he said: ‘You’re the love of my life, and I’m so happy for you.’”</p> <p dir="ltr">“It was very emotional, and I feel so lucky that I have my parents. I’m very grateful,” she said.</p> <p dir="ltr">In another touching post, Lionel shared some sweet photos of him walking his youngest daughter down the aisle.</p> <p dir="ltr">“My little girl is all grown up and starting her own journey with the love of her life. You'll always be my little bird, but I'm so proud of the woman you've become. Model Sofia Jirau makes history

<p>24-year-old Sofia Jirau has made history after becoming the first model with Down syndrome to pose for Victoria’s Secret.</p> <p>Coming from Puerto Rico, she joins the fashion giant's roster as part of its inclusion campaign, the Love Cloud collection.</p> <p>"One day I dreamed it, I worked for it and today it's a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret,” an English translation of Sofia's post to her almost 200,000 Instagram followers said.</p> <p>“I am Victoria Secret's first model with Down syndrome.”</p> <p>The model and activist shared a snippet of the campaign video to her social media with an inspiring message.</p> <p>“We are 18 women who know no boundaries,” she wrote.</p> <p>“Thank you for seeing me as a model and making me part of the Love Cloud Collection inclusion campaign,” she wrote.</p> <p>“This is just the beginning, now it’s formed. Inside and out there are no limited.”</p> <p>The brand's Love Cloud Collection includes women of different sizes and backgrounds.</p> <p>It marks a major departure for the brand best known for its supermodel "Angels" and fashion show.</p> <p>In the show's 24-year history it has seen the likes of Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Tyra Banks, Kendall Jenner, Gigi and Bella Hadid walk the runway as Angels and models. Swedish royal family releases new photos of adorable family!

The Prince will therefore not enjoy the style of Royal Highness."</p>

Rise to royalty: Swedish Sofia’s journey from risque star to beloved princess

<p>Before she became Princess Sofia of Sweden, she was Sofia Hellqvist. </p> <p>Born in December 1984, she began making a name for herself while studying in Sweden’s capital, Stockholm. </p> <p>The royal started out as a glamour model and partook in risque photoshoots. One of her most outlandish was one she posed for at the age of 20 for a Swedish men’s magazine,<span> </span>Slitz,<span> </span>where she wore a boa constrictor as her own form of clothing. </p> <p>In 2004 she was crowned<span> </span>Miss Slitz 2004. </p> <p>The recognition from the bold cover earnt her a spot on a popular reality television show,<span> </span>Paradise Hotel,<span> </span>in 2005. </p> <p>The show required a group of single people to stay in a luxury tropical resort and compete to find their perfect match. </p> <p>The royal would not find the one for her until 2009, however, when she met her future husband, Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, at a busy nightclub. </p> <p>They both described their first meeting as “love at first sight”. </p> <p>Having studied accounting, global ethics and various other courses focussing on children’s rights, Princess Sofia received encouragement from her royal boyfriend to focus on more charitable endeavours. </p> <p>In 2010, she established the Sofia Hellqvist Project Playground, which supports underprivileged children in South Africa.</p> <p>When the news of their intimate relationship became public, critics thought the couple were not a good match. </p> <p>Princess Sofia said in an interview in 2018 the transition from local celebrity to royal an incredibly difficult feat. </p> <p>"I was met with an enormous hate storm, from people who had opinions about as a person, about my relationship.</p> <p>"I was surprised and it definitely affected me. I didn't understand that people had such need to express how badly they felt about me. It was very tough.</p> <p> "I don't regret anything. All these experiences have made me the person I am. I wouldn't have made those choices today."</p> <p>In 2014, the couple announced their engagement and it seems Prince Carl was head over heels with his soon-to-be-fiance. </p> <p>"I don't think I knew the magic of love before I met Sofia," Prince Carl said in their joint engagement interview.</p> <p>"But ever since I met her, I've seen how love can change a person."</p> <p>Princess Sofia said: "The first thing I noticed about Carl Philip was that he seemed very humble.</p> <p>"When I got to know him, I saw that he was incredibly natural, very intelligent and very humble."</p> <p>The duo married inside the Royal Chapel at the Royal Palace of Stockholm on June 13, 2015. </p> <p>Other royals from all over the world were there to witness the nuptials including Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, along with others from the UK, Belgium, Japan, the Netherlands, Greece, Norway and Germany.</p> <p>The couple welcomed their first child, Prince Alexander, in April 2016, and then later on, Prince Gabriel in August 2017. </p> <p>Scroll through the gallery above to see Princess Sophia’s life in pictures.</p>

Prince Charles and Lionel Richie announce new collaboration

<p>Prince Charles has met with singer Lionel Richie to announce their collaboration in Barbados during the royal’s Caribbean tour.</p> <p>The music legend has been named as the new global ambassador for Prince Charles’ charity.</p> <p>The Prince’s Trust, which was co-founded by the Prince of Wales in 1976, aims to help vulnerable young people access jobs, education and training.</p> <p>"I've been involved with the Prince's Trust for a number of years and, of course, I understand exactly what they do – giving opportunity to kids who would never ever have a shot at anywhere close to their dreams," said Richie on Tuesday at the Coral Reef Club Hotel.</p> <p>The Prince thanked the 69-year-old singer for taking on the role, alluding to his hit song Hello: "It must have been you I was looking for". Richie replied, "Oh, did you say that? He did say that."</p> <p>Richie has also been named chair of the Global Ambassador Group for the charity. In this role, he will focus on international youth unemployment and education.</p> <p>He is the latest celebrity to support the charity, joining the ranks of<span> </span><a rel="noopener" href="https://www.oversixty.co.nz/entertainment/movies/george-and-amal-clooney-bring-their-a-list-glamour-to-buckingham-palace" target="_blank">Amal Clooney</a>, Helen Mirren, Benedict Cumberbatch and more.</p> <p>Earlier this week, the charity and Amal collaborated to launch the Amal Clooney Award, an honour that puts the spotlight on "the work of young women who have succeeded against the odds to make a lasting difference in their communities". Inside Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s son’s christening

<p>Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden have baptised their three-month-old son, Prince Gabriel, in a lavish ceremony in the Royal Chapel at Stockholm’s Drottningholm Palace Church.</p> <p>The beautiful bub wore the same lace christening gown worn by the king’s father Prince Gustaf Adolf in 1906, his big brother Prince Alexander and even his own dad.</p> <p>Sofia also followed tradition, wearing a customary Swedish outfit which included an embroidered head cap, striped apron and buckled shoes.</p> <p>But despite it being Gabriel’s big day, all eyes were on Alexander, who started getting bored around the 35-minute mark – as kids are wont to do! First look at newest member of the Swedish royal family

<p>While most of the world’s eyes have been on the upcoming arrival of the British royals’ newest member, the Swedish royal family have been celebrating the birth of their own royal baby.</p> <p>And we’ve finally been given our first look at Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s adorable new bub Prince Gabriel, who was born on August 31. He joins the genetically blessed couple’s first son, one-year-old Prince Alexander.</p> <p>Just-released photos from the Royal Palace in Stockholm taken by photographer Erika Geredemark, <strong>which you can see in the gallery above</strong>, show the beautiful (and colour-coordinated!) family of four beaming as they celebrate their newest arrival.</p> <p>In a statement released alongside the sweet pictures, the couple said, “A big and warm thanks for all the kind congratulations in connection with the birth of our son, Prince Gabriel. We appreciate your kindness very much.”</p> <p>After the birth announcement, a “really happy” Prince Carl Philip described the newborn as “a very cute boy”.</p> <p>“It feels great, pure joy!” he gushed. “He seems to be a very charming little boy and Sofia is a wonderful mum. <p>Modern Family star Sofia Vergara might be one of the highest-paid women on television, but when it comes to hair care, the 44-year-old relies on one surprisingly cheap product, and chances are you’ve already got it in your bathroom.</p> <p>“I’ve been using Head and Shoulders shampoo and conditioner every day for 20 years!” she revealed. “It gives me gorgeous hair.”</p> <p>The actress currently stars in the hair care brand’s winter campaign with her 24-year-old son, Manolo.</p> <p><img width="497" height="440" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/38689/image__497x440.jpg" alt="Image_ (366)" style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"/></p> <p>Vergara, who is surprisingly a natural blonde, also spoke about the difficulty in keeping her dyed brown locks looking so natural. “When my hair was very dark, I had to dye my roots every month – it was a lot of maintenance.”</p> <p>The Colombian-born star confessed she switched hair colour early on in her career after experiencing difficulty finding work as a blonde. “When I started as an actor, because of the accent and my body and my personality, it was not what the stereotype of the Latina woman in Hollywood is, so they didn't know where to put me. Bedtime story-telling grandma becomes YouTube sensation

<p>You might think cute cats, adorable dogs, beauty gurus, gamers and daredevil teenagers are the stars of YouTube, but in Germany, an unexpected viral sensation has taken the nation by storm. Helga Sofia Josefa, an 85-year-old grandmother, has proven a hit on the website, sharing videos of herself reading bedtime stories.</p> <p>Known on YouTube by the username <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSSUG_vo76v04FKRnsWavMA" target="_blank"><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">“MarmeladenOma”</span></strong></a> (“Jam Grandma”), Josefa has an impressive 121,000 subscribers to her channel, and her videos have racked up more than three million views. The doting octogenarian never refers to her subscribers and followers as such, however, preferring to call them her “grandchildren”.</p> <p>The idea for the YouTube channel came from one of her real grandchildren, Janik, who helps his grandma run her page. Despite recording only a few hundred viewers when they began, Josefa’s audience exploded after popular German video game live-streamer Gronkh introduced her to his 640,000 followers.</p> <p>The gorgeous gran has been inundated with messages from her adoring fans, thanking her for helping them wind down and even fall asleep. “That's our intention. And also that these fairytales aren’t lost,” she told German TV program <em>heute-show</em>.</p> <p>Josefa and her grandson have recently been nominated for a German web video award for best livestream, the winner of which will be decided on June 1. 501 Richie Benauds spotted on Sydney Cricket Ground in record breaking tribute
